What do Willie Nelson, burritos, and sustainable farming have in common? While the answer may not be obvious, all three come together in Chipotle’s new video highlighting their commitment to developing sustainable food systems.

The company has started the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation. The foundation aims to not only educate and futher sustainable farming, but to also support family farmers and fund culinary education. According to the site, they have already donated over $2 million dollars to these projects.

You can help by downloading the Willie Nelson version of Coldplay’s “The Scientist”  from the iTunes store. You can also sign the petition on their partner site, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution to combat global obesity.

Although many applaud Chipotle’s efforts to produce food sustainably, there is still work to do.  Can we further shift our animal based diet towards more plants?  Can we use more organic ingredients – a benefit both for our planet and for the workers who grow our food?  And can we help others make these connections in ways that produce more demand for truly sustainable food?  Chipotle is certainly leading the fast food way…
